In June of 2003, the Abraham Lincoln High School updated some equipment in our weight room. This update was needed to facilitate the new workout program designed by Bob Forsyth, physical education instructor and head football coach at ALHS. This program is designed to help in the development of the overall athlete, while still allowing for some activity specific lifts. The program quickly showed a need for equipment that was more suited to the development of the overall athlete, while providing additional safety for the lifters. Through the donations of several community members and businesses we were able to purchases 16 Super Power Racks. The racks allow for 4-5 participants to complete their entire workout in the enclosed rack. The racks allow for maximum protection for the lifters, while enabling more participants to workout during one session.
The weight room, which is located in the north balcony area of our field house, is a 2,800 square foot room with a rubber floor covering to facilitate the lifting, stretching, and agility training of the participants. The room contains 16 Super Power Racks, 4 leg extension/curl machines, 4 lateral pull down machines, 2 jammers, 2 full dumbbell sets, and 6,000 pounds of free weights. The facility has proven to be beneficial in helping Abraham Lincoln activities continue to remain competitive at the 4A level and is a critical step in moving our programs to new heights. The purchase of this new equipment has not only facilitated the improvement of the Abraham Lincoln High School weight training program, it provided an opportunity to greatly enhance the lifting equipment at Kirn Junior High by replacing their equipment with the items that were previously used at ALHS.
