Changes at Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson is in the middle of a major remodeling project. Remember the old open courtyard where trees and bushes once stood in the middle of the school? Once the remodel is complete, this area will be the student dining/commons area. It will be large enough so that all students will be able to eat on campus. Some will not like that, but it should greatly reduce the number of problems the school has with an open-campus lunch arrangementhonor students will continue to have the privilege of open campus if they choose.
The new kitchen will be a state of the art. This area can be utilized for a social, community gathering area which should be great asset for TJ Alumni. The entrance from 25th street will be completely redone with elevator access to the new ICN room, as well as the renovated auditorium and will also feature a new drop off lane and visitor parking.
The old cafeteria is being renovated into a student fitness/training room area, which will allow much more space and better safety than the previous room located on the stage of the old fieldhouse and will also have new elevator access. All exterior windows are being replaced with energy saving windows so no more frigid, drafty classrooms in the wintertime.
What is less visible, but really the bulk of the project is improved plumbing and an all new geo-thermal heating and cooling system that will significantly moderate the climate of ALL classrooms while saving on overall energy costs.
Amazing what a penny will do (1 cent local option sales tax)!
ALHS Mega Music/Drama Reunion
Attention to AL alumni who participated in music and drama from 1971 through 1978. We are planning a special Mega Music/Drama Reunion to get back together and get reacquainted.
We would like to use this opportunity to pay tribute to some of our teachers: Lee Spann, Jim Misner, John Gibson and Clarence Smelser. The mega reunion event will probably be held in the summer of 2007.
If you are interested in helping plan and organize this event (or just want to be sure you receive information about this), please contact:
